The New York Giants have signed free agent running back Najee Harris to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. Harris, 28, worked out for the Giants on Monday and impressed head coach John Harbaugh despite coming off a torn Achilles suffered last season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

"He looked good in the workout," Harbaugh said. "You know, he's not back 100%. He's not in football shape yet. So, if we are able to do something, it'll be a process."

Harris acknowledged he's not yet in full football condition but expressed confidence in his ability to ramp up quickly. "Am I fully in football shape? No, I just got my pads today," Harris said. "I take that seriously. I'm committed to that."

The signing comes after the Giants waived running back Dante Miller (groin) and released veteran wideout Ju Ju Smith-Schuster. Harris joins a crowded backfield featuring Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary. A first-round pick (24th overall) in 2021 from Alabama, Harris is a former Pro Bowler who rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his final four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
