LSU Cease-and-Desist Over Jayden Daniels' No. 5 Jersey

Attorney Adam Kenner sent a cease-and-desist letter to LSU after sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett was allowed to wear the No. 5 jersey that Jayden Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, wore when he left LSU for the NFL. The Daniels family felt profoundly disrespected, stating that their number would remain a meaningful part of his legacy. LSU coach Lane Kiffin confirmed Pickett was promised the No. 5 jersey during recruiting, but the decision to issue it has been contested.

Former LSU coach Brian Kelly also noted that No. 5 was promised to Pickett during recruitment, but he chose not to issue it because Daniels wasn't on board. LSU has not yet responded to the letter. The No. 20 jersey of Billy Cannon, the first Heisman winner, is the only number that cannot be worn again by a football player.
