Falcons Trade for Wanya Morris to Bolster Offensive Line

The Atlanta Falcons acquired offensive tackle Wanya Morris from the Kansas City Chiefs in a trade, sources told ESPN. Morris, 25, started 16 games over three seasons with the Chiefs, including 11 at left tackle in 2024. The trade addresses Atlanta's need for tackle depth following longtime starter Kaleb McGary's retirement this offseason.

The Falcons have two left-handed quarterbacks competing for the starting job: Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. New coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees plan to run more plays under center, which requires better protection for left-handed QBs. Atlanta signed former Chiefs right tackle Jawaan Taylor in free agency, but he has missed voluntary OTAs for undisclosed reasons.

Morris showed versatility during his Chiefs tenure, starting at left tackle in 2024 when Kansas City finished 15-2. However, injuries and inconsistent play led to his benching late that season in favor of Joe Thuney protecting Patrick Mahomes. A left knee injury in December 2024 cost Morris the entire season.

During training camp, Morris will compete for playing time ahead of Michael Jerrell and other reserves. The trade adds depth behind right tackle Jawaan Taylor while providing insurance at left tackle if needed.
