Safety Reed Blankenship is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles for the Houston Texans on a three-year, $24.75 million contract. The 27-year-old undrafted free agent from Middle Tennessee State will receive $16.5 million guaranteed, according to his agent Kyle McCarthy of Athletes First.

Blankenship evolved from long shot to reliable starter during his four seasons in Philadelphia. He started four games as a rookie in 2022 and held down that position for the next three seasons. The safety was part of the Eagles' championship defense in 2024 that ranked first in passing yards allowed (174.2) and second in opponent points per game (17.8).

With injuries creating a rotating cast in Philadelphia's secondary this past season, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio praised Blankenship as a 'stabilizing player in our defense.' The safety appeared in 56 games over four seasons with the Eagles, recording nine interceptions, 23 passes defended, and 308 tackles. His departure creates a significant hole in Philadelphia's secondary as the team looks to rebuild its defensive backfield.
