The Cleveland Browns fell 34-10 to the Chicago Bears in their preseason opener, but Deshaun Watson sparked excitement in his first game since the 2024 season. Coach Todd Monken praised Watson’s effort, calling his play "awesome" and noting he was "having fun" on the field. Watson completed 11 of 15 passes for 126 yards, led two scoring drives, and helped the Browns earn their only points on a 50‑yard field goal by Andre Szmyt and a 14‑yard run by rookie KC Concepcion.

Despite a turnover on a strip‑sack and a few missed opportunities, Watson’s return from a torn right Achilles tendon shows promise. He said he has no doubt he can play at a high level and that the offseason work has paid off.

Shedeur Sanders took over in the third quarter, completing 6 of 11 passes for 79 yards and an interception, while Dillon Gabriel finished the game with 5 of 8 completions. Monken plans to split reps between Watson and Sanders in upcoming practices.

The Browns will host joint practices with the Bills and continue to evaluate their quarterback options as the preseason progresses.
