Former NFL star Chris Johnson is calling for a return of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as he battles the disease himself. The 40-year-old former Tennessee Titans running back, who revealed his diagnosis on Good Morning America, hopes to reignite the viral campaign that raised millions for ALS research nearly a decade ago.

Johnson found motivation after watching former Utah basketball player Hunter Mecum participate in the challenge on social media. The original 2014 campaign generated approximately $135 million in the United States and $220 million worldwide for ALS research, making it one of the most successful awareness initiatives in recent memory.

The former Pro Bowler explained that his case represents sporadic ALS, which accounts for most diagnoses and can affect anyone regardless of family history. Johnson played ten NFL seasons and rushed for 2,006 yards in 2009, earning his "CJ2K" nickname and establishing himself among the league's elite running backs.

He directly challenged former teammates Marshawn Lynch, Len Dale White, and Adam "Pacman" Jones to join the cause. Johnson's personal connection to this fight transforms what began as internet entertainment into a meaningful call for action that could drive real progress against a devastating disease.
