The Kansas City Chiefs have launched the 'Let Her Play' campaign to advocate for girls' flag football to become a sanctioned high school sport in Kansas. The NFL team unveiled a 55-second video featuring girls who already play flag football alongside those who dream of representing their schools in organized competition. The Chiefs are targeting the April 23 vote by the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) board, which will decide whether to add the sport.

Kansas City's initiative comes as flag football experiences explosive growth nationwide, with over 20 million players worldwide and more than half a million girls ages 6 to 17 participating. The Chiefs president Mark Donovan emphasized that while girls can play flag football recreationally, they currently cannot compete for state championships or play organized high school flag football in Kansas. Data from the Chiefs' campaign shows high school girls' flag football participation in Kansas grew 163% from 2024 to 2025, demonstrating the sport's rising popularity.

The KSHSAA board consists of 73 members including high school principals, school board representatives, athletic directors, and superintendents. At least 51% must vote yes for the petition to pass, which would make Kansas the 18th state to sanction girls' flag football. The Chiefs have placed the petition on their website for fans to sign. The campaign video concludes with prominent organization members including coach Andy Reid, Donovan, and players like Trey Smith, Creed Humphrey, and Xavier Worthy shouting 'Let Her Play' as a final call to action.
