Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tanner Hudson is likely out for the season after suffering a torn pectoral in the team's win over the Miami Dolphins, his agent told ESPN on Tuesday. The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the year.
Hudson, 31, was hurt while trying to make a tackle on special teams in Cincinnati's 31-24 road victory in Week 5. Earlier in the game, he had three catches for 14 yards and a touchdown reception, which drew praise from Bengals coach Zac Taylor. "He's just Mr. Dependable," Taylor said Sunday. "Whether he's on the practice squad, whether he's on the roster, he's going to show up. He's been who we thought he was."
Taylor revealed the injury on Monday and said the team was gathering more information to determine whether Hudson would be placed on injured reserve. An eighth-year player out of Southern Arkansas, Hudson was a surprise cut when the team trimmed its roster to 53 players. He was re-signed to the practice squad and elevated for Weeks 1 and 3, then signed to the active roster on Sept. 29, when the Bengals placed cornerback Jalen Davis on injured reserve.
Hudson has spent the past four seasons with Cincinnati. In 42 appearances with the club, he has 84 catches for 707 yards and five touchdowns. The Bengals' other reserve tight end options include Erick All Jr. and Jack Endries, a seventh-round pick in this year's draft who has been inactive in three of the team's five games this season.
