San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is expected to have surgery on his nagging PCL injury and will be out for the year, GM John Lynch told reporters Saturday. Pearsall, 25, has been dealing with the PCL issue since Week 4 of last season when he first injured it against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That injury cost him all or parts of 10 games last season.

After three training camp practices, his third season is over before it began. He finished last year with 36 receptions for 528 yards and no touchdowns over 10 games. The Niners placed Pearsall on season-ending injured reserve and signed wideout Deebo Samuel to a one-year deal, taking Pearsall's roster spot.

Lynch said the timeline for recovery is six to 12 months, with nine months the potential sweet spot. "Deebo makes us better as a football team," Lynch said. The 49ers originally selected Samuel in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft and traded him to Washington in the 2025 offseason.
