The 2026 Kansas City Chiefs training camp opened at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is fully cleared and feeling "amazing," while coach Andy Reid aims to return the team to the playoffs.

Rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane, the No. 6 overall pick, practiced in a noncontact yellow jersey due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him for minicamp. Delane took reps at both cornerback spots and showed promise covering undrafted rookie Jeff Caldwell, though he acknowledged first-day mistakes. "The first day is always ups and downs," Delane said. He's projected to start for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, replacing Trent McDuffie, traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

Mahomes threw a perfect 20-yard touchdown to receiver Jimmy Holiday over Delane in red zone drills. The Chiefs placed defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott and tight end John Michael Gyllenborg on the physically unable to perform list with knee injuries. The team also unveiled renderings for a planned $3B domed stadium in Kansas City. Camp updates continue until preseason begins Aug. 13.
