Trae Young called his return to Atlanta a "cool" experience despite the Washington Wizards' 139-132 loss to the Hawks. Young, who spent seven-plus seasons with the Hawks, recorded 23 points and 10 assists but also had a season-high eight turnovers. He shared a pregame embrace with former coach Quin Snyder, noting their special relationship.
The Hawks ran a tribute video during a second-quarter timeout, and Young showed appreciation by making a heart with his hands. Friday marked his first game back in an opposing jersey after being traded to the Wizards in January for Corey Kispert and CJ McCollum. Young, the franchise's all-time leader in assists and 3-pointers, entered the game leading the NBA in assists with 9.3 per game.
Wizards coach Brian Keefe praised Young's unselfishness and leadership.
