Tim Hardaway Jr. will join the Miami Heat on a $6.5 million one-year deal, but he won't be wearing his preferred No. 10. His father, Tim Hardaway Sr., who had his No. 10 retired by the Heat in 2009, explicitly stated the number will remain in the rafters. This decision marks a significant personal choice for the elder Hardaway.

Hardaway Sr. played for the Heat from 1996 to 2001, earning two All-Star selections and multiple All-NBA team nods. He stated his legacy is his legacy and that his son is forging his own path. Hardaway Jr. has previously faced jersey number conflicts with the Knicks and Pistons, both of which have retired No. 10.

Instead, Hardaway Jr. is expected to wear No. 11, a number he also utilized during his tenure with the Dallas Mavericks. Hardaway Sr. reiterated his love for his son but stood firm on his decision, emphasizing that once a number is retired, it should stay that way. The Heat are adding Hardaway Jr. to their roster as they build around Giannis Antetokounmpo.
