Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won his second consecutive NBA MVP award, becoming just the 14th player in league history to claim back-to-back MVPs, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania. The Oklahoma City Thunder star, 27, averaged 31.1 points per game on a career-best 55.3% from the floor while leading the 64-18 Thunder to the NBA's best record for the second straight season.

Only five active players have won consecutive MVPs — Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and now Gilgeous-Alexander. Every retired back-to-back winner sits in the Hall of Fame. This season's other finalists were Jokic and Victor Wembanyama, whom the Thunder will face in the Western Conference finals beginning Monday in Oklahoma City.

Gilgeous-Alexander also won Clutch Player of the Year, leading the league with 175 clutch points and 16 go-ahead clutch field goals. He's the first player since Michael Jordan to average at least 30 points per game in four consecutive seasons, having finished in the top five of MVP voting each of the last four years. The Thunder go into the conference finals as the league's top seed, with 31.1 points per game anchoring a historic individual campaign.
