Daryl Morey has been relieved of his duties as president of basketball operations with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources confirmed Tuesday. The decision came after a meeting between Morey and team owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer. Coach Nick Nurse will remain in his position, while Bob Myers will lead the search for Morey's replacement and oversee basketball operations in the interim.

Morey spent six seasons with Philadelphia, compiling a 270-212 record and five playoff appearances. Despite these accomplishments, the 76ers never advanced beyond the second round during his tenure. Key moves included trading for James Harden and signing Paul George, though the trio of George, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid played only 43 games together over the past two seasons, posting a 21-22 record while being owed $153 million next season.

The 76ers recently traded away Jared McCain at the deadline despite Morey drafting VJ Edgecombe with the third pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Nurse maintains a 116-130 record across three seasons, including a 24-58 mark last year. The franchise now faces significant decisions with a core group that has yet to deliver on championship expectations.
