Free agent center Mitchell Robinson has agreed to a three-year, $47.4 million contract with the Boston Celtics, per sources. The move comes after Robinson helped lead the New York Knicks to their first championship in 53 years this past season. He brings elite rebounding ability to Boston, having averaged 7.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in just under 24 minutes per game during his eight-year Knicks tenure.

Robinson's 4.2 offensive rebounds per game ranked second in the NBA this season, showcasing his value as a glass-cleaner. His 60 appearances marked a career-high in games played since 2022-23, as injuries had previously limited his availability. The center became instrumental in New York's title run despite missing time with a broken right pinky finger between the Eastern Conference finals and NBA Finals.

In the playoffs, Robinson contributed 4.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per game while working his way back from injury. He was one of only two rotation players originally drafted by the Knicks who remained significant contributors throughout their championship season, along with Miles McBride.

Boston adds a proven rebounding specialist who fills a specific need in the frontcourt. For Knicks fans, this represents the loss of a franchise cornerstone who spent his entire career in New York before chasing another championship opportunity.
