The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned little‑used guard Bronny James to their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, as they begin the season 7‑2. The 22‑year‑old third‑year player has averaged just 2.4 minutes and 0.8 points per NBA game.
In the developmental league James has shown more promise, posting an average of 18.4 points on 49.6% shooting (including 41.3% from three‑point range), 4.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 25 games for the South Bay Lakers, which was rebranded and relocated this season. The team now plays at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, not at the Lakers' practice facility in El Segundo.
The Coachella Valley roster also includes rookie Cameron Carr, who was assigned Thursday, and a new coach. Alex Cerda replaces Zack Guthrie, who moved to coach JJ Redick's staff with the Lakers.
