Ja Morant Elbow Sprain Out Past Trade Deadline

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant will miss at least three weeks with a left elbow sprain, sidelining him through the Feb. 5 trade deadline. The team announced the ulnar collateral ligament injury Saturday, which he suffered on a chase-down block Wednesday against Atlanta. Morant finished that game with 23 points and 12 assists.

This injury complicates Memphis's trade strategy. ESPN's Shams Charania reported the Grizzlies have been entertaining offers for their two-time All-Star, but league sources indicate tepid interest due to Morant's availability issues. He's played only 79 games since the 2023-24 season start, battling suspensions and injuries while averaging career-worst shooting percentages this year.

Morant has two years and $87 million remaining on his contract after Memphis declined extension talks last offseason. Despite his struggles, he remains the franchise cornerstone, recently stating his loyalty to the team after a London win. The Grizzlies must now decide whether to stand pat or make moves without their star point guard's input at the deadline.
