Hawks secure Quin Snyder with multiyear deal

The Atlanta Hawks have locked in head coach Quin Snyder on a multiyear extension, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania. The deal follows a similar long‑term contract for president of basketball operations Onsi Saleh, who was promoted from general manager in late May. Ownership aims to cement continuity after two consecutive extensions.

Snyder entered Atlanta in the 2022‑23 season, guiding the team to a 46‑36 record before a six‑game first‑round loss to the New York Knicks. After dealing four‑time All‑Star Trae Young to Washington for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, he sparked a 19‑win stretch in the final 24 games, propelling the Hawks into the NBA Finals.

Snyder also became the first coach to develop back‑to‑back Most Improved Player winners, with Nickeil Alexander‑Walker and Dyson Daniels earning the honor in successive seasons. Atlanta entered Game 3 of the Finals as the only squad to have defeated the Knicks in the postseason. The extensions signal a clear commitment to keep the current coaching and front‑office formula intact.

With the coaching contract secured, Atlanta can focus on roster construction around McCollum, Kispert and emerging talent rather than front‑office turnover. Fans gain confidence that the team’s recent surge won’t be undone by sudden leadership changes, and the front office can now plan multi‑year moves without the specter of a coaching shake‑up.
