France will host the 2031 men's basketball World Cup, while Japan secured the 2030 women's tournament, FIBA announced Wednesday. The decision comes as both nations prepare to leverage their recent Olympic hosting experience, with Victor Wembanyama set to lead France's bid for gold on home soil.

French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated the announcement, calling it "a great source of pride" that follows the Paris 2024 Games. The men's tournament will run from August 29 to September 14 across Lyon, Lille, and Paris, with the final phase in the capital. Japan's women's event will take place November 26 to December 8 in Tokyo.

Both nations have strong basketball credentials - Japan's women won silver at the Tokyo Olympics and the country previously hosted the 2006 men's world championship. France, making its tournament debut as host, reached the Olympic final in 2024 behind Wembanyama's 26-point performance. The next women's World Cup heads to Berlin in September, while Qatar prepares to host the 2027 men's tournament.
