Doug Moe, the innovative coach who transformed the Denver Nuggets into an offensive powerhouse in the 1980s, has died at 87. Known for his fast-paced, high-scoring style, Moe led the Nuggets to nine consecutive playoff appearances and became the franchise's winningest coach with 432 victories before Michael Malone surpassed the record last season.

Moe's coaching career began after a successful playing stint in the ABA, where he was a three-time All-Star and helped the Oakland Oaks win the 1969 championship. His transition to coaching came under Larry Brown in San Antonio before taking over the Nuggets in 1980. The Denver Nuggets quickly became known for their exciting, up-tempo offense that led the league in scoring six times during Moe's tenure.

The Nuggets organization praised Moe as "one of a kind" and announced plans to honor his legacy with his banner hanging in the rafters. His 628-529 career record ranks 19th in NBA history, and he received the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Moe's influence on basketball strategy and his role in making the Nuggets one of the league's most entertaining teams during the 1980s cemented his place in NBA history.
