Clippers double‑down on Kawhi despite trade flurry

Lawrence Frank used the Clippers’ season‑end press conference to reiterate that the franchise’s long‑term blueprint still revolves around Kawhi Leonard. After a play‑in defeat to Golden State, Frank told reporters the organization will sit down with Leonard “at the appropriate time” and, if goals align, “win with Kawhi.” Frank added praise for the team’s depth and upcoming draft prospects.

Leonard, who turns 35 in June, posted a career‑high 27.9 points per game across 65 appearances, yet missed the playoffs for the first time while healthy. The deadline saw LA move James Harden to Cleveland for Darius Garland and ship Ivica Zubac to Indiana for a package that included Bennedict Mathurin. The moves signal LA’s intent to bolster Leonard’s support.

An NBA probe into Leonard’s endorsement with the bankrupt sponsor Aspiration has lingered since September, but Frank insisted it has not affected on‑court decisions. Citing owner Steve Ballmer’s reputation, he affirmed the club’s integrity and highlighted a roster blending youth, draft assets and cap flexibility as proof the Clippers still remain a contender, not a rebuild.
