Free‑agent forward Ben Simmons, 30, is set to attend a player‑led private minicamp for the Australian men’s basketball team in Melbourne starting Monday, a source told ESPN. He will participate with zero restrictions, having earned a reputation for full commitment at training camps.

Simmons skipped the 2025‑26 NBA season to heal from back and other injuries. He signed with the LA Clippers in February 2025 after being waived by the Brooklyn Nets and played 18 regular‑season games and five playoff games for the Clippers.

Multiple NBA franchises have shown interest in the former fly‑by‑wire star, who is open to a minimum contract. One source says a non‑guaranteed offer sits on the table for a Western Conference team, while the Arizona State assistant David Patrick—Simmons’ godfather and an Australian national team coach—confirms his regained athleticism.

A Melbourne native, Simmons hopes to represent the Boomers at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He paid his own way to the minicamp, having previously played for Australia in the 2013 FIBA Oceania Championships but missing subsequent Olympic appearances.
