Shinnosuke Abe has stepped down as manager of the Yomiuri Giants after Tokyo police arrested him for allegedly assaulting his 18-year-old daughter during a family dispute. The former star player apologized for causing trouble and confirmed his resignation at a Tuesday news conference.

According to the team's newspaper owner, Abe grabbed his daughter by the collar and threw her to the floor while trying to stop her fighting with her younger sister. The teenager contacted a child guidance center after consulting ChatGPT about her situation, leading to police involvement hours later. She stated she wasn't injured and that reconciliation occurred between them.

Abe admitted losing his temper during the incident. The former All-Star led the Central League in batting and RBIs in 2012, reached 2,000 career hits in 2017, and retired from playing in 2019 before taking the managerial role in 2024.

Offensive coach Hideki Hashigami will serve as acting manager while the Giants organization deals with the fallout from this unexpected leadership change mid-season.
