Luis Gil, the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year, will join the New York Yankees in mid-April after making a start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed Gil recently threw in Florida and is headed north to join the team's top affiliate, where he'll throw a bullpen session before his next start.

Gil ended up as the odd man out of spring training despite going 2-1 with a 4.66 ERA in six starts. Last season, the right-hander went 4-1 with a 3.32 ERA across 11 starts in an injury-filled campaign. Gil started 2025 on the injured list due to a high-grade lat strain and didn't make his season debut until Aug. 3.

Left-hander Carlos Rodón, who experienced right hamstring tightness earlier this week, threw off a mound Wednesday and is expected to be ready for opening day. Boone confirmed no tests have been scheduled for Rodón, who also underwent surgery last October to remove a bone spur and loose bodies from his left elbow. The Yankees open the season Friday against the Miami Marlins.
