Walker Buehler has signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres, marking his return to the NL West after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 31-year-old right-hander reported to Padres camp Tuesday morning, wearing the team's brown and gold uniform for the first time since his playing days at Vanderbilt.

Buehler spent last season with Boston and Philadelphia after the Red Sox released him in late August. He struggled initially but regained his velocity and delivery during his time with the Phillies, generating interest from multiple teams. The Padres, who have two rotation openings, see Buehler as a potential solution to bolster their pitching staff.

Buehler brings impressive credentials to San Diego, including two All-Star selections and two World Series rings from his decade with the Dodgers. He's been particularly dominant against the Padres in his career, posting a 1.67 ERA in 13 starts. After moving to Southern California during the offseason to prepare, Buehler aims to reclaim his role as a frontline starter. He'll compete for a rotation spot alongside Nick Pivetta, Joe Musgrove, and Michael King, while also facing competition from returnees Randy Vásquez and JP Sears.
