A Tom Seaver 1969 World Series ring sold for $854,122 at Heritage Auctions, setting a record for the Hall of Fame pitcher's memorabilia and ranking as the third-highest price ever paid for a sports championship ring. The late Mets legend's family consigned nearly 200 items that collectively fetched over $1.8 million over the weekend.

Seaver, who died in 2020 at age 75 from complications of Lewy body dementia and COVID-19, was a 12-time All-Star and three-time NL Cy Young winner. His 1973 Mets NL championship ring sold for $201,300, while his Hall of Fame induction plaque fetched $170,800. Other notable sales included a late-1969 Mets hat for $79,300 and his 1967 Rookie of the Year Award for $50,020.

Chris Ivy, Heritage's director of sports auctions, said the family felt the time was right to share Seaver's legacy with fans. The collection also included rings from the 1975 and 1981 All-Star Games, his 1986 AL championship ring from his final season with the Red Sox, and a 1985 piece commemorating his 300th MLB victory with the White Sox.
