South Korea advanced to the World Baseball Classic quarterfinals with a 7-2 victory over Australia at the Tokyo Dome. The win came via a complicated tiebreaker system after all three teams in Pool C finished with 2-2 records. South Korea needed to win by five runs or more to advance, and they delivered.

Bo Gyeong Moon led the offensive charge with four RBIs, giving him 11 for the tournament. The Koreans built a 4-0 lead after three innings and extended it to 5-0 in the fifth when Moon drove in his fourth run. Australia twice cut the deficit to four runs but couldn't overcome the five-run threshold needed to advance.

South Korea's first WBC quarterfinal appearance came after three consecutive failures to advance from pool play. The decisive moment came in the ninth when Hyun Min Ahn's sacrifice fly scored Hae-Min Park, and a throwing error allowed Park to score the winning run. Jung Hoo Lee made a spectacular diving catch in the bottom of the ninth that preserved the five-run margin and sealed South Korea's historic advancement.
