Royals' Jensen Oversleeps, Misses Game Start

Kansas City Royals rookie catcher Carter Jensen was scratched from Thursday's starting lineup after oversleeping and missing his alarm call before the game against the Minnesota Twins. The 22-year-old arrived at Kauffman Stadium late, forcing manager Matt Quatraro to replace him with veteran Salvador Perez, who moved from designated hitter to catcher for the first eight innings.

Jensen eventually made it to the ballpark but not in time to properly prepare for the start. He pinch-hit in the ninth inning of Kansas City's 5-1 loss to Minnesota. Jensen admitted to The Kansas City Star that he had no excuse for the incident, saying it 'sucks' and that he felt he let his teammates and coaches down.

First baseman Vinnie Pasquantino said teammates were initially concerned about Jensen's well-being when they couldn't reach him. 'There are some things that cannot happen, and that's one of them,' Pasquantino told reporters. 'He's going to have to wear it on the chin.' The Royals veteran added that while nobody is angry with Jensen, such mistakes cannot be tolerated in professional baseball.
