Pasquantino out six weeks as Royals juggle injuries

Kansas City recalled outfielder John Rave from Triple‑A Omaha to fill first base after Vinnie Pasquantino underwent surgery on a fractured hamate bone in his right hand. The 28‑year‑old left‑handed slugger left the rain‑delayed 8‑7 loss to Houston after a fifth‑inning hit. He could miss up to six weeks, a blow to a club already 10½ games behind in the AL Central.

Pasquantino entered the season after a career‑high 32 homers and 113 RBIs in 2025, but he is batting .224 with six long balls and 32 RBIs this year. Manager Matt Quatraro expressed frustration, noting the first baseman’s recent surge and the difficulty of replacing his power. Jac Caglianone, the regular right fielder, is expected to man first base for the finale.

Kansas City also wrestles with setbacks to Cole Ragans, Seth Lugo and Kris Bubic, leaving the rotation thin and the bullpen stretched. Reliever Nick Mears and closer Carlos Estevez continue rehab from shoulder and rotator‑cuff issues. With the roster in flux, Quatraro must constantly reshuffle lineups to keep the Royals competitive in a disappointing campaign. Every game now feels critical.
