Rikuu Nishida stepped into right field for the Chicago White Sox on Monday and helped seal a 3-1 victory at Rate Field. The 25‑year‑old threw out Orlando Arcia at home in the second inning, prompting a roar from the 30,114 fans. He capped the night with a single in the fourth after a strikeout in his first at‑bat.

Nishida arrived from Triple‑A Charlotte, where he hit .347 with a homer and 10 RBIs in 33 games and stole 40 bases. Manager Will Venable praised his defensive instincts and “quality at‑bats.” The debut placed Chicago alongside Philadelphia (2008) and Seattle (2012) as the only clubs to start two Japanese‑born position players, joining veteran Munetaka Murakami, who signed a $34 million, two‑year deal in December.

The win keeps the White Sox above .500 as they chase a wild‑card spot, while Nishida’s energy and speed add a fresh dimension to a lineup that has already lost Jarred Kelenic. His number 51 honors Ichiro Suzuki, reflecting the growing Japanese influence in Chicago’s roster.
