The Tampa Bay Rays' long search for a new ballpark took a tangible step forward. The Hillsborough College board of trustees unanimously approved a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the team. This agreement paves the way for a mixed-use development project that would include a new stadium at the school's Dale Mabry campus.

This potential move represents another chapter in the franchise's difficult quest for a permanent home. The team previously withdrew from a $1.3 billion St. Petersburg project last March. New ownership, led by Florida developer Patrick Zalupski, is now exploring options outside of St. Pete, where the Rays remain lease-bound to play at Tropicana Field for three more seasons.

The proposed site sits near Steinbrenner Field and Raymond James Stadium, creating a potential sports corridor in Tampa. While the agreement is non-binding, it provides the most concrete path forward in years. The Rays plan to return to Tropicana Field for the upcoming season while this new development plan progresses through further negotiations and community reviews.
