Pirates shift Mlodzinski to restricted list, Griffin to IL

The Pittsburgh Pirates moved right‑hander Carmen Mlodzinski to the restricted list Sunday, ending his brief stint in the bullpen after Jared Jones reclaimed a rotation spot. Mlodzinski has not thrown since a Monday start against the Chicago Cubs, and GM Ben Cherington said the club needed a ready arm for the Minnesota series. The move also opens a roster spot for a potential call‑up.

Infielder Konnor Griffin landed on the 10‑day injured list with a right elbow strain. The 20‑year‑old, who signed a nine‑year, $140 million deal in April, is batting .270 with four homers, 22 RBIs and 14 steals in his debut season. Pittsburgh also reinstated first‑baseman/outfielder Ryan O’Hearn from the quad strain list and called up right‑hander Cam Sanders from Triple‑A Indianapolis.

Cherington stressed confidence that Mlodzinski will return to the mound soon; the right‑hander is 4‑3 with a 3.76 ERA over 55 innings, posting nine starts and two relief outings this year. His absence forces the Pirates to rely on recent bullpen depth while Griffin’s injury thins the infield. The roster shuffle leaves Pittsburgh scrambling for consistent pitching depth this stretch.
