The Philadelphia Phillies addressed outfield concerns Thursday by acquiring veteran Derek Hill from the Chicago White Sox. Chicago included $250,000 in international bonus pool money while receiving minor leaguers Dylan Campbell and José Colmenares in return. The deal gives Philadelphia immediate outfield depth after Adolis García exited Wednesday's game with a shoulder injury.

Hill, 30, has posted modest numbers this season at .213 with four homers, eight RBIs and seven steals across 50 games. The White Sox claimed him off waivers in September, and he now joins a Phillies team that has surged to a 28-12 record since Don Mattingly took over as interim manager in April. Philadelphia designated right-hander Jackson Rutledge for assignment to clear roster space.

Meanwhile, the White Sox sit atop the AL Central with a surprising 36-31 record after losing 101-plus games in each of the last three seasons. Chicago also activated outfielder Everson Pereira from the injured list Thursday, with the 25-year-old expressing confidence his pectoral strain won't be a season-long concern.

The Phillies begin a weekend series in Milwaukee looking to maintain their strong play under Mattingly, while Hill provides insurance for what could be a significant injury to García.
