Phillies' Adolis García Out for Season Following Lat Surgery

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Adolis García will undergo season-ending latissimus dorsi repair surgery, ending his first year with the club. The team announced Thursday that the two-time All-Star suffered the injury during a June 10 game in Toronto after making consecutive throws to home plate on sacrifice flies. García was diagnosed with a pulled muscle in his right shoulder.

The 33-year-old signed a one-year, $10 million contract in December after six seasons with Texas. His production fell well short of expectations, hitting just .195 with a .270 on-base percentage, seven homers, and 21 RBIs in 67 games. The injury compounds a disappointing season for a player who earned All-Star honors in both 2022 and 2023.

Philadelphia responded by recalling right-handed pitcher Seth Johnson and selecting Bryse Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, while optioning Tanner Banks. Johnson posted a 1.33 ERA in 24 relief appearances at Lehigh Valley, though he struggled in three earlier Phillies stints. Wilson brings starting depth after going 3-5 with a 6.29 ERA in 12 Triple-A appearances.

García's absence leaves a significant hole in Philadelphia's outfield for the remainder of 2026. The six to eight month recovery timeline should have him ready for spring training, but the Phillies lose a power bat during a critical playoff push.
