Shohei Ohtani received a lubricant injection in his left knee, as confirmed by Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. The procedure, performed after Sunday's game against Arizona, aimed to provide relief and utilize the subsequent four days off. Ohtani, the four-time MVP, was in the starting lineup as designated hitter for Friday's game against the New York Yankees and is expected to make his next pitching start on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Ohtani, who last pitched on July 3, is having a stellar season, batting .293 with 22 homers and 58 RBIs, and boasting an 8-2 record with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 85⅔ innings. He opted to skip the All-Star Game. Roberts indicated that he would prefer to give Ohtani a day off after his pitching starts whenever feasible, acknowledging scheduling constraints.

Roberts also mentioned that Ohtani will likely throw off a mound in the coming days to assess his knee's condition before his anticipated return to the pitcher's mound.
