A unique Shohei Ohtani rookie card, the 2018 Bowman Chrome Superfractor (batting variation), has been sold privately for $3,365,000. This marks the third-highest price ever paid for a modern baseball card and sets a new record for any Ohtani card.

The sale occurred through Fanatics Collect's private sales network. While the card is graded a 9.5 by Beckett Grading Services, it notably lacks an autograph or embedded memorabilia. This sale places it among the top fourteen sports cards to exceed $3 million in value in the past year.

Ohtani, who played his rookie year with the Los Angeles Angels in 2018, earned American League Rookie of the Year honors. He demonstrated his dual-threat ability both at the plate and on the mound. After six seasons with the Angels, Ohtani signed a $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2023.
