Mets Shake Up Rotation With Peterson Move

The last-place New York Mets are shaking up their pitching rotation, demoting David Peterson to the bullpen and promoting Sean Manaea to a starting role. Peterson, an All-Star in 2025, has struggled this season with a 5.57 ERA and will shift to relief duties after allowing six runs in his last start.

Manager Carlos Mendoza announced the move following Manaea's impressive three-inning performance where he struck out six batters. The 34-year-old left-hander signed a $75 million contract in December 2024 but has been relegated to mop-up duty this year while working to improve his velocity.

The Mets hope Manaea can return to his 2024 form when he went 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA. Peterson, 30, remains under team control and will be available out of the bullpen if he improves his performance. The struggling team needs immediate pitching improvements in last place.
