An investment group led by ex-Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has acquired a minority stake in the Athletics, anticipating the team's relocation to Las Vegas in 2028. Harbinger Sports Group, the entity through which Cuban invested, announced the acquisition on Thursday, though the exact percentage of the stake remains undisclosed.

Cuban, who also holds a minority stake in the Mavericks, serves as the general partner and president of the Atlanta-based Harbinger Sports Group. The group's founder and chief investment officer is Rashaun Williams, a minority owner of the Atlanta Falcons. Steve Cannon, co-founder and CEO, is vice chairman of AMB Sports and Entertainment, while managing partner Jonathan Mariner is the former chief financial officer for Major League Baseball.

"We are minority investors looking to make our investors a lot of money," Cuban stated. The Athletics, currently playing at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento, California, are set to move to a new $2 billion, 33,000-capacity domed stadium on the Las Vegas Strip. Majority owner John Fisher is overseeing the stadium's construction, and the team expressed enthusiasm for Harbinger's experience and long-term perspective as they build the franchise's future in Las Vegas.
