The Seattle Mariners activated right-handed reliever Matt Brash from the injured list on Wednesday, reinstating one of their most reliable bullpen arms after a stint with right lat inflammation. Brash posted a perfect 0.00 ERA across 11 1/3 innings this season, striking out eight while issuing just two walks before landing on the IL on May 1.

Manager Dan Wilson praised Brash's return, calling him a "big part of that back end bullpen" who thrives in high-leverage situations. The 28-year-old missed the entire 2024 season recovering from Tommy John surgery but has re-established himself as Seattle's top relief option. To make room, the Mariners optioned left-hander Robinson Ortiz to Triple-A Tacoma.

Meanwhile, J.P. Crawford's status remains uncertain after right triceps soreness from being hit by a pitch. Crawford took grounders at third base during Wednesday's pregame routine, marking a potential position shift after 900 games at shortstop. Rookie Colt Emerson started at shortstop while Patrick Wisdom handled third base duties.

The Mariners are exploring positional flexibility as Crawford, who hasn't played third base since 2018 with Philadelphia, could create opportunities for the 20-year-old Emerson to assume everyday shortstop duties sooner than expected.
