Six-time All-Star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left the Blue Jays' 3-1 win after colliding with Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. on a chaotic play at third.

In the sixth inning, with Guerrero first and Nathan Lukes second, the Jays were trailing 1-0 when George Springer hit a grounder to third baseman Ryan Mc Mahon. Mc Mahon forced out Lukes, threw to first, but New York first baseman Luis García Jr. couldn’t catch the ball, losing his glove. Guerrero broke for third, and García’s throw to Lombard—who wasn’t trying to reach the bag—began the collision. Lombard leapt over sliding Guerrero, striking his left thigh against Guerrero’s head and dislodging his helmet. Guerrero got up, ran home to tie, but looked dazed after crossing the plate.

Charles Mc Adoo replaced him at first in the top of the seventh. Guerrero is batting .263 with seven homers and 46 RBI.
