Giants' Butto Out 5-6 Months After Arm Surgery

San Francisco Giants reliever Jose Butto underwent arm surgery Friday that will sideline him for five to six months, the team announced Saturday. The 28-year-old right-hander had the procedure with Dr. Jason Lee at Stanford Medical Center to repair an axillary artery in his upper right arm.

Butto had been on the injured list for more than two weeks after allowing five runs in just two innings across three appearances this season. The Giants bullpen will need to adjust without one of their key relievers for the remainder of the season.

The timing of Butto's injury is particularly challenging for San Francisco, which has relied on its bullpen depth throughout the early part of the season. His absence creates a significant gap in the Giants' relief corps at a critical point in the campaign.
