Edwin Diaz's Trumpet Entrance Stuns Dodger Stadium in First Save

LOS ANGELES -- Edwin Diaz made an immediate impact in his Dodgers debut, closing out a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks with his signature trumpet entrance music echoing through Dodger Stadium. The three-time All-Star struck out two batters and retired three of four hitters in the ninth inning, securing his first save since signing a three-year, $69 million contract with Los Angeles.

Diaz's entrance has become legendary in New York, where he spent seven seasons with the Mets, converting 144 saves while Timmy Trumpet's 'Narco' blared from the Citi Field speakers. At Dodger Stadium, a Long Beach-based trumpeter named Tatiana Tate performed live beyond the left-field wall, surprising even Diaz himself. 'I was surprised a little bit,' he said. 'I heard a trumpet sounding before I was coming out. I said, 'No way they got a live trumpet.' It was pretty fun.'

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had been skeptical about landing Diaz, believing the closer was too entrenched with the Mets. However, a December recruiting call helped seal the deal. 'Afterwards, I told my wife, 'We're going to get him,'' Roberts recalled. With Diaz now anchoring the ninth inning, Los Angeles has addressed its only glaring weakness from last season's World Series run, giving the Dodgers their first established closer since Kenley Jansen's departure in 2021.
