CHICAGO -- The White Sox recalled catcher Edgar Quero from Triple-A Charlotte after placing Joey Bart on the 10-day IL with a fractured left hand. Bart was hit by a pitch in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox. Quero, 23, began the season as the starter while Kyle Teel recovered from a knee injury. After Teel went down again with an ankle ailment, Quero was called back up, but was demoted following the trade for Bart on Monday.

Quero is hitting .194 with two home runs this season but said he feels ready. "Everyone knows it's been a tough year for me," Quero said. "I'm ready to go."

Chicago also placed reliever Chris Murphy on the IL with a flexor strain. Right-hander David Sandlin was recalled; he is 2-1 with a 6.05 ERA in 19⅓ innings this season for Chicago.
