Dodgers Revamp Bench After Hernández Injuries

The Los Angeles Dodgers have overhauled their bench following significant injuries to starting outfielder Teoscar Hernández and utility man Kiké Hernández. Teoscar landed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, while Kiké sustained a significant left oblique tear just two days into his season after missing 53 games recovering from elbow surgery. The team responded by recalling Ryan Ward and signing Santiago Espinal to bolster their depth.

Ryan Ward returns after hitting .254 with six home runs in 47 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Santiago Espinal comes back after being designated for assignment earlier this week. Hyeseong Kim, who hit .259 with 11 RBIs but struggled at the plate, was optioned to Triple-A to make room for the new additions. Kim had been solid defensively but inconsistent offensively.

Manager Dave Roberts acknowledged Kim's defensive abilities but noted his offensive struggles. "He should be able to bunt and be more dynamic," Roberts said. "Unfortunately, it just hasn't happened right now." The roster shuffle also saw starting pitcher Blake Snell moved to the 60-day injured list, creating space for the new bench acquisitions that aim to provide more versatility.
