Detroit Tigers and Red Wings Launch Regional Sports Network

The owners of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings have launched a new regional sports network to broadcast their games. Ilitch Sports + Entertainment announced the creation of Detroit SportsNet on Monday, marking a significant shift in how Detroit's professional sports teams will reach local fans.

Detroit SportsNet will carry Tigers games this season and Red Wings games starting next season through cable, satellite, and in-market streaming services. This move comes after the Tigers announced last month that their local television broadcasts would be produced and distributed by Major League Baseball this season, along with Red Wings games.

The new network represents a strategic pivot for Detroit's sports franchises, which have been preparing for alternative broadcasting options. The Tigers and other franchises recently terminated their deal with Main Street Sports Group after the operator failed to make scheduled rights payments, creating an urgent need for a new distribution model.
