The Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-handed starter Jameson Taillon from the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the teams announced Sunday. Taillon, 34, was designated for assignment Monday after posting a 5.92 ERA in 15 games for the Cubs this season while surrendering 25 home runs in just 76 innings. His struggles with the long ball dated back to spring training, and a hamstring strain landed him on the injured list. Taillon was in the final year of a four-year, $68 million deal signed before the 2023 season. He carries a career 3.99 ERA over 10 seasons with three different teams. The Blue Jays may need surplus pitching after the trade deadline passes Monday, as they are expected to move some of their own arms, including pending free agent starter Kevin Gausman.
