Bucknor's Missed Call Undermines ABS Credibility in Brewers-Rays Game

C. B. Bucknor drew renewed scrutiny Tuesday after his overturned call at first base during Milwaukee's 6-2 win over Tampa Bay.

The umpire initially ruled Jake Bauers out for failing to touch first base on an infield single in the sixth inning, but replay evidence showed Bauers clearly touching the top of the bag. Both managers, Pat Murphy and Kevin Cash, smiled upon seeing the replay, though Murphy declined to criticize the call. This incident follows Bucknor's historically poor performance with MLB's automated ball-strike system last weekend, where six of eight overturned calls involved incorrect strike calls being reversed to balls.

The Brewers manager later attributed the postgame smiles to a pre-game conversation with Cash, calling them 'just friends.'.
