The Milwaukee Brewers are set to acquire right-hander Dustin May and left-hander JoJo Romero from the St. Louis Cardinals, according to a source. Both pitchers are slated to become free agents after the current season.

May, 28, has posted a 5-7 record with a 4.38 ERA over 109 innings and 21 starts this season, recording 106 strikeouts against 35 walks. He was previously traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox at last year's trade deadline. In his seven-year MLB career, May holds a 24-27 record with a 3.99 ERA and 403 strikeouts.

Romero, 29, brings closing experience and has a 3.35 ERA in 44 appearances this year, though he has not pitched since July 12 due to an abdomen injury. Across seven MLB seasons, Romero has a 16-14 record, 84 holds, 12 saves, a 3.51 ERA, and 226 strikeouts in 235 2/3 innings. The trade was initially reported by The Athletic.
