The Milwaukee Brewers have called up outfield prospect Luis Lara to the major leagues, less than a month after he signed a seven-year, $31 million contract. Lara, 21, was playing in Triple-A Nashville when the deal was finalized. He joins a Brewers team that leads the NL Central.

Lara is batting .321 with a .432 on-base percentage and nine home runs in 78 games for Nashville this season. He is considered an elite fielder. The Brewers also optioned outfielder Blake Perkins to Triple-A.

This move follows a similar pattern for the Brewers, who also promoted shortstop Cooper Pratt after he signed a long-term deal. Pratt signed an eight-year, $50.75 million contract in March and debuted in June. The team is showing a willingness to reward its top prospects with significant long-term commitments.
