Braves Recall Jarvis, Designate Tellez in Roster Move

The Atlanta Braves recalled infielder Jim Jarvis from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, designating veteran first baseman Rowdy Tellez for assignment. Jarvis, 25, slots into the lineup at shortstop for Thursday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, hitting ninth against right-hander Dustin May. This marks Jarvis's second stint with the major league club this season.

Jarvis earned his recall by hitting .313 with six homers, 36 RBI, and 32 stolen bases at Gwinnett. His previous brief appearance in Atlanta in early May saw him go 1 for 5. The Braves selected Tellez's contract on June 10, but the 31-year-old saw limited action, going 2 for 10 with one homer in seven games. Tellez's tenure was brief and largely unproductive.

This roster adjustment signals the Braves' willingness to give younger talent an opportunity, particularly at shortstop where Jarvis now steps in. Tellez's departure frees up a roster spot, likely for a player who fits the team's immediate needs. The team is seeking consistency as the season progresses.
